Apple Cider Vinegar for Teeth

Apple Cider Vinegar presents wide range of benefits like treating cold symptoms, diabetes, heart problems, cancer, high cholesterol, weight loss and more. Effectively, apple cider Vinegar (ACV) can be also used for treating various teeth problems.

Following are AVC’s benefits for teeth.

Removes stains

Apple Cider vinegar is popular as a mouth cleaner as it can take away stains on teeth. It is also considered as natural teeth whitener. For the best result, you actually need to use ACV for at least a month. It also consists of acetic acid which may remove the enamel of your teeth. So, you must brush with regular toothpaste after cleaning your mouth with ACV. [1]

How to use?

Just mix two teaspoon Apple Cider Vinegar with one-forth cup of water. Swill out with the solution keeping it in your mouth for approximately twenty seconds.

Get rid of bad breath

Apple Cider Vinegar is one of the wonderful home remedies to get rid of bad breath. As ACV holds acidic properties, it can treat bad breath also known as halitosis. Normally, bad breath may cause due to leftover food pieces in the mouth, dry mouth, poor dental hygiene, tobacco products, or infections in your mouth. Apple cider vinegar includes significant digestive enzymes which will help to improve the digestive processes and may help you get rid of bad breath issues.[2]

How to use?

Just add half a tablespoon of ACV in a cup of water. Gargle with the solution for about 10 seconds and repeat again until the cup of solution finishes.

Kill infections in your mouth and gums

Apple Cider Vinegar contains a substance called pectin, also known as the “mother”which according to livestrong.com helps kill infections in mouth. Also, Consumer Guide to Dentistry shares that oral thrush is caused because of candida albicans (a fungus) and it results in bad breath, a white film on the tongue, and a sore throat. According to Dr. Earl Mindell’s book “Dr. Earl Mindell’s Amazing Apple Cider Vinegar,” ACV can destroy fungus if you use it on a regular basis. [3]

How to use?

Mix together two tablespoons of the vinegar with a cup of water. Drink it before having your meals. Otherwise, you may just gargle with the solution to flush out the fungus.

Caution

If Apple Cider Vinegar is not diluted with water it may result in some problems because it holds high acidity level. According to MayoClinic.com, undiluted ACV may result in burns and irritation in mouth, esophagus and throat and may also cause stomach upset, tooth enamel erosion, ulcer irritation etcetera.[4]

How much ACV to use?

Jaimi Ellison, personal trainer and president of Santa Cruz Core in California suggests mixing a part of the vinegar with 10 parts water to get a safe mixture. A research done in 2012 discovered that drinking a glass of ACV every day may cause tooth erosion. So in-order to save yourself from this, you need to rinse your mouth with water after consuming ACV, according to Ellison.

According to Dr Mercola, in his article “What Research Really says About Apple Cider Vinegar,” straight ACV can damage your tooth enamel and even the tissues of your throat and mouth.[5] So you need to be careful while using AVC. Take an experts advice before use.
